Stuck between Copy.ai and Jasper?

I can’t blame you!

These are two of the best AI writing tools available. That said, I know you’re here to make a purchase decision, and that’s exactly what this guide will help you do.

In this comparison, we’ll place Copy.ai VS Jasper side-by-side and look at their top features, biggest differences, and how their pricing stacks up.

By the time we’re done, I think you’ll know which AI tool to go with.

Feature Comparison

To get things started, here’s a brief overview of their main features.

It’s important to note that Jasper is only cheaper because its most affordable plan includes only short-form content. The cheapest plan that includes long-form content is $59/month.

Now that we’ve set that straight, these tools are even more similar!

But there is one area where they differ a lot, and that is their long-form editors.

The editors

The long-form editor in Copy.ai makes content creation extremely easy.

The article creation process is split into five distinct steps, starting with only the title of the blog post.

Copy.ai blog post wizard step one

After you enter a title and, optionally, a few keywords and a tone for the article, Copy.ai will generate an outline. You can edit, reorder, and regenerate the outline until you’re happy with it. The following step is where things get interesting…

Copy.ai includes a step after outlining, which it calls the “talking points.” These are like sub-headings for each section in the outline.

Copy.ai blog post wizard step three

There are other AI tools that follow this outlining system, but only Copy.ai includes the talking points step, and it makes a huge difference.

Editing the talking points gives you a ton of control over what the AI writes. It feels kind of like you’re writing the article, but the process is much easier than writing a draft from scratch.

Once you’re happy with the talking points, Copy.ai will generate a complete article. The final step includes buttons to rewrite any section or expand with more content.

Copy.ai blog post wizard step four

Overall, it’s a very organized and straightforward system for content creation.

While Copy.ai’s blog post wizard is very organized, you may also find it constricting. If you feel too inhibited by this writing process, you may prefer Jasper’s more open approach.

Jasper’s long-form editor is totally unique. It’s set up like a Google Docs document, allowing you to write and edit however you see fit.

The key is that you can use keyboard shortcuts to outline the article and generate more content.

For example, you can place your cursor anywhere in the article and press cmd+j to add 200 more words of original content. There are also shortcuts to generate outlines and rewrite portions of text.

While Copy.ai gives you a rigid structure, Jasper lets you write however you want. You may find this more liberating or intimidating depending on how you like to write. In this case, it’s a matter of personal preference, so I can’t say that either one is clearly superior to the other.

While the long-form editors offer different experiences, the short-form editors are much more similar.

The short-form editors

So far, every AI I’ve reviewed uses the same format for short-form content generation.

You select a content type, fill out some fields on the left side of the screen, and the AI-generated content shows up on the right side.

Here’s an example of a Quora answer being generated with Jasper:

And here’s a product description being created with Copy.ai’s short-form editor:

The only difference is that Copy.ai places the AI-generated content below the inputs and keeps a persistent sidebar on the right side where you can copy and edit your content.

Given how similar the editors are, I would base your choice on the long-form editors and the quality of content.

Speaking of which, here’s a comparison of the content quality of these AI writers.

Content quality

At the end of the day, the content is what matters the most.

I gave Jasper a four-star rating for its content and Copy.ai five stars. I don’t think Copy.ai blows Jasper out of the water, but the quality is better.

The one area where Jasper really struggled was repetition. It frequently repeated the same words, sentence structures, and ideas. It had some other troubles as well, but that was the main issue.

Copy.ai, on the other hand, has no trouble with repetition at all. The prose is great, and it has an excellent, varied style.

The one thing Copy.ai struggles with is factual accuracy, and that’s why it’s important to edit the talking points carefully. Otherwise, it can end up writing a whole paragraph about why Miami is so cold in the summer.

Despite its flaws, Copy.ai created the best AI content I’ve come across and outperformed Jasper in this area.

Pricing

When it comes to pricing, these apps are nearly identical.

Jasper has plans starting at $29/month, but this only includes the short-form content generators. If you want to use the long-form editor, pricing starts at $59/month for 50K words/month.

Copy.ai has one pricing plan (besides the free trial) that starts at $49/month for 40K words/month.

In summary, you can get 50K words for $59/month with Jasper, or 40K words for $49/month with Copy.ai

When scaled to 300K words/month, both tools cost $279/month, so they actually become more similarly priced at higher volumes.

If you pay annually, Jasper offers 17% off the monthly price, while Copy.ai gives a generous 25% discount.

Final take

These are both awesome AI writers. You could do well with either one, but here’s my final recommendation.

Copy.ai is the better AI writer because it creates higher quality content than Jasper and costs less when paid for annually.

With that said, the biggest difference between these tools is their workflows. If you think you’ll prefer Jasper’s more freeform editor, it may be a better choice for your business.

The good news is that both Copy.ai and Jasper have free trials, so you can try out both before making a final decision.
